Day 1: Accra 

  • Arrive in Accra, Ghana and check into your hotel.
  • Take a walk around the city center and visit the Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
  • Have dinner at one of Accra's many excellent restaurants, such as Buka or Gold Coast Restaurant.

Day 2: Cape Coast 

  • Drive to Cape Coast, a coastal city known for its tragic history as a major center of the slave trade.
  • Visit the Cape Coast Castle and the Elmina Castle, two of the most important slave forts in West Africa.
  • Take a boat trip to Kakum National Park, a rainforest home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, chimpanzees, and monkeys.

Day 3: Assin Manso Last Bath

  • Drive to Assin Manso, a small village that is home to the Assin Manso Slave River, where enslaved Africans were baptized before being shipped to the Americas.
  • Visit the Assin Manso Slave River Park and learn about the history of the slave trade in Ghana.
  • Take a walk through the village and meet the locals.

Day 4: Kumasi 

  • Drive to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom.
  • Visit the Manhyia Palace, the official residence of the Asantehene, the King of the Ashanti people.
  • Visit the Kejetia Market, one of the largest markets in Africa.
  • Take a cooking class and learn how to make some of Ghana's most popular dishes.

Day 5: Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary 

  • Drive to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a rainforest reserve that is home to a variety of monkey species, including Mona monkeys, Colobus monkeys, and Diana monkeys.
  • Take a guided tour of the sanctuary and see the monkeys up close.
  • Learn about the importance of conservation and the work that is being done to protect Ghana's wildlife.

Day 6: Wli Waterfalls 

  • Drive to the Wli Waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in Ghana.
  • Take a hike to the top of the falls and enjoy the stunning views.
  • Go for a swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls.
  • Have a picnic lunch in the rainforest.

Day 7: Head back to Accra

Travel Requirements

Visas For Entry 

The Republic of Ghana Requires a visa for all non-citizens to enter the country. To process your visa, whether single or multiple entries, you will need your actual passport, a passport photo, a completed online visa application, an invitation letter or hotel reservation confirmation letter, and a copy of your COVID vaccine card. We will provide the invitation letter and schedule a visa application completion workshop.  We will also offer visa completion services.

Yellow Fever

You must get immunized against Yellow Fever before traveling to Ghana, with a few exceptions. You need to get your shot at least 10 days before travel if you haven’t already. If you have, you just need to travel with a copy of your yellow immunization card. If you choose to not vaccinate or are allergic, you must have a certified copy of a letter from your religious institution or your doctor with you. Exceptions can be rare or problematic.  Once you have a yellow fever shot, you do not need to get another.

Malaria Pills

Malaria pills are highly recommended but not required. Please talk to your primary care physician about malaria pills.

COVID Requirements

Ghana no longer requires a Covid vaccine but a PCR test is. required all persons entering the country. The US also no longer requires covid tests to reenter the country.
